National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched on 19 August 2016 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to increase apprenticeship opportunities for youth across 49 industries. Under NAPS, the government shares 25% of the prescribed stipend (capped at ₹1,500/month) with the employer to reduce their cost and encourage hiring apprentices. A 2026 revision raised the stipend range to ₹6,800–₹12,300/month (a 36% increase). Apprentices gain 1–3 years of structured on-the-job training and receive a government-recognised apprenticeship certificate from NCVT.

How to Apply
Register on Apprenticeship India Portal
onlineGo to apprenticeshipindia.gov.in → "Register as Candidate" → fill in your details (Aadhaar, education, district, sector preference) → create account → your profile is visible to registered employers and establishments.
Search and Apply for Apprenticeship Vacancies
onlineLog in → "Find Apprenticeship" → filter by sector, location, and qualification → apply to vacancies at companies you are interested in. You can also approach companies directly and ask them to register you on the portal.
Employer Verification and Contract Signing
offlineThe employer verifies your documents and educational qualification. If selected, both you and the employer sign the Apprenticeship Contract through the portal. The contract is auto-registered with the Regional Apprenticeship Adviser.
Begin Training
offlineStart structured on-the-job training at the employer's facility as per the trade curriculum. Duration is 1–3 years depending on trade. Monthly stipend is credited to your bank account, with 25% reimbursed to the employer by the government.
Trade Test and Certificate
offlineAfter completing the apprenticeship period, appear for the All India Trade Test conducted by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). Pass the test to receive the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) — recognized by all government and private employers.
