Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save Daughter, Educate Daughter) is a national campaign launched on January 22, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Panipat, Haryana under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education. The scheme addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and promotes the welfare, education, and empowerment of the girl child across India. It initially targeted 100 gender-critical districts and has now been expanded to cover all 640+ districts. The scheme does not provide direct cash benefits but creates community awareness and drives inter-departmental convergence to improve female birth rate, enrollment of girls in schools, and end gender-biased sex selective abortion.

How to Apply
Register at Anganwadi / Health Centre
offlinePregnant women and new mothers should register at their nearest Anganwadi centre or Primary Health Centre (PHC) immediately on pregnancy. Anganwadi workers under BBBP ensure pre-natal check-ups, safe delivery, and female birth registration. Early registration protects against sex-selective practices.
Birth Registration (Mandatory)
offlineRegister every girl child's birth within 21 days at the municipal birth registration office or gram panchayat → obtain birth certificate → this is the foundational document needed to access all linked benefits like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Kanya Sumangala, school scholarships, etc.
School Enrollment and Retention
offlineEnroll girl children in nearby government schools at age 6 under the Right to Education Act → BBBP drives track girl child dropout rates. If a girl child drops out, contact your local Anganwadi worker or Block Education Officer who can facilitate re-enrollment and scholarships under various state programs.
