Maximum investment is ₹9 lakh for individual accounts and ₹15 lakh for joint accounts (2 or 3 adults). The scheme has a 5-year maturity period. How to Apply
Open a Post Office Savings Account (POSA)

Collect POMIS Application Form
offlineVisit any post office and ask for the POMIS Account Opening Form (Form SB-3). Fill in your name, address, nominee details, POSA account number, and the deposit amount (minimum ₹1,000; maximum ₹9 lakh individual or ₹15 lakh joint).
Submit Documents and Deposit
offlineSubmit the filled form with Aadhaar (copy + original for verification), PAN card (copy), two passport photos, and your POSA passbook. Make the lump sum deposit via cash or cheque. Your POMIS account is opened same day.
Receive Monthly Interest
offlineStarting from the next month after account opening, monthly interest (7.4% p.a. divided by 12) is automatically credited to your linked Post Office Savings Account on the same date each month. Withdraw from POSA any time.
Maturity and Renewal
offlineAfter 5 years, the POMIS account matures. Visit the post office with your POMIS passbook to withdraw your principal and close the account, or reinvest in a new POMIS account for another 5 years to continue receiving monthly income.
