Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched in May 2016 to provide free LPG gas connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) and economically weaker households, replacing harmful cooking fuels with clean LPG. Under PMUY 2.0 and 3.0, the scheme provides: free connection (cylinder + regulator + pipe), first refill free, a free hotplate, and ₹300 per cylinder subsidy for up to 9 refills/year via DBT. Over 10 crore connections have been distributed. eKYC of the Aadhaar is mandatory for continued subsidy.

Eligibility Criteria
Woman aged 18 years or above; belongs to BPL family or is from SC/ST/OBC/PM-AWAS beneficiary/EWS/Antyodaya Anna Yojana household/forest dweller/island residents (as listed in 7 category list); household should not already have an LPG connection; Aadhaar card and bank account mandatory

How to Apply
Apply on PMUY Website
onlineGo to pmuy.gov.in → click "Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection" → select your gas company (HP Gas / Indane / Bharat Gas) → fill the KYC form with Aadhaar, mobile, bank account, and address → upload documents → submit.
Apply at LPG Distributor (Offline)
offlineVisit your nearest HP Gas, Bharat Gas, or Indane LPG distributor with Aadhaar, BPL/category certificate, bank passbook, and photo. The distributor fills the form and submits it to the oil company on your behalf.
Complete eKYC on MyLPG Portal
onlineVisit mylpg.in → click "Ujjwala KYC" → enter your customer ID and Aadhaar → complete OTP verification. eKYC is mandatory — without it, LPG subsidy is withheld even for existing beneficiaries.
Receive Connection and First Free Refill
offlineAfter verification (7–15 days), your LPG connection is activated. A cylinder, pressure regulator, LPG pipe (15 ft), and hotplate are delivered to your home for free. Your first gas refill is also provided free of cost.
Get ₹300 Subsidy Per Cylinder
online / offlineFor every subsequent refill, you pay the market price upfront and ₹300 subsidy is credited back to your Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT within 2–3 working days. Track subsidy status on mylpg.in → "Subsidy History."
