PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri ScHools for Rising India) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in September 2022 by the Ministry of Education to develop 14,500+ government schools as exemplar model schools under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Selected schools receive upgrades for digital classrooms, STEM labs, green campus, sports and activity areas, libraries, teacher training, and inclusive education facilities. Schools are selected through a Challenge Mode selection process. By 2026, over 10,000 schools have been notified as PM SHRI schools.

How to Apply

For School Principals — Apply on PM SHRI Portal

Go to pmshrischools.education.gov.in → school principal registers using UDISE code and state credentials → fills infrastructure checklist and academic data → submits application during the quarterly selection window.

State Government Review

State/UT education department reviews and endorses applications from their schools. Schools recommended by the state are forwarded to the central Ministry of Education for final verification.

Graded Evaluation

Schools are graded on 55+ parameters covering infrastructure, inclusivity, governance, and academic outcomes. Top-scoring schools are selected as PM SHRI schools. Results are published on the portal.

MoU Signing and Funding

Selected schools sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry. Funding is released in tranches tied to implementation milestones — infrastructure upgrades, teacher training, and quarterly progress reporting.
