Gruha Jyothi is one of five guarantee schemes of the Karnataka government, launched in 2023 by the Energy Department. The scheme provides 200 units of free electricity per month to every domestic household in Karnataka consuming up to 200 units on average. Consumers using more than 200 units pay the full bill for the extra units consumed, but the first 200 units are subsidized. The subsidy is credited to the consumer's electricity account automatically after registration. Over 2.2 crore households in Karnataka benefit from this scheme.

Permanent resident of Karnataka with a domestic electricity connection under BESCOM, MESCOM, GESCOM, HESCOM, or CHESCOM; average monthly electricity consumption in FY 2022-23 must not exceed 200 units; applicable to both APL and BPL households with a domestic meter; one meter per household

How to Apply
Apply on Seva Sindhu Portal
onlineGo to sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in → click "Gruha Jyothi" → enter your RR Number (consumer number from electricity bill) → enter Aadhaar number → complete OTP verification → fill declaration → submit. You receive an acknowledgement number by SMS.
Apply at Service Centre (Offline)
offlineVisit your nearest Karnataka One, Bangalore One, or Grama One centre with your electricity bill and Aadhaar card → operator fills the online form on your behalf → submit. No fee charged for application.
DISCOM Verification
offlineYour electricity distribution company (BESCOM/MESCOM/etc.) verifies your average consumption from the past 12 months. If consumption is 200 units/month or below, you are approved automatically. You get a confirmation SMS.
Monthly Subsidy Applied
offlineAfter approval, your monthly electricity bill shows a Gruha Jyothi credit of up to 200 units. If your actual consumption is below 200 units, your bill is zero. If it is above 200 units, you pay only for the excess units.
Track Application Status
onlineCheck your application status on sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in → "Track Application" → enter your acknowledgement number. For issues, call the Gruha Jyothi helpline 1800-425-9339 (free between 9 AM–6 PM).
