How to Apply

1

Ensure You Have NFSA Ration Card

online / offline

Check if your family has a valid BPL (Priority Household) or AAY ration card issued under NFSA in Karnataka. If not, apply for a new ration card at your nearest Tahsildar office or via the Karnataka food portal at ahara.kar.nic.in.

2

Link Aadhaar to Ration Card

offline

Visit your nearest ration shop or Tahsildar office to link all family members' Aadhaar numbers to the ration card. This is mandatory for biometric authentication at the FPS. Aadhaar seeding can also be done at CSC centres.

3

Visit Fair Price Shop Monthly

offline

Visit your designated Fair Price Shop (FPS / Ration Shop) every month. Give your ration card and do biometric verification (fingerprint) on the POS machine. Collect 10 kg of free rice per family member. No cash payment required.

4

OTP Alternative if Biometric Fails

offline

If fingerprint verification fails, request an OTP-based authentication. The FPS dealer enters your Aadhaar-linked mobile number → you receive an OTP → enter OTP to authenticate and collect rice.

5

Check Entitlement and Complaints

online

Check your monthly rice entitlement, transaction history, and FPS details on the Karnataka Food Portal ahara.kar.nic.in → "Beneficiary Details." For complaints about non-distribution, call the toll-free helpline 1967 (Mon–Sat, 10 AM–5 PM).
