How to Apply

1

Enroll at Your Bank or Post Office

offline

Visit any participating bank or post office where you have a savings account → ask for PMSBY enrollment → fill the consent-cum-declaration form with your bank account details, Aadhaar, and nominee information → submit. ₹20 is auto-deducted annually every 1 June.

2

Enroll via Net Banking or Mobile App

online

Log in to your bank's net banking or mobile app → go to "Insurance" or "Jan Suraksha Schemes" → select PMSBY → confirm your savings account number and enter nominee details → submit consent. This takes less than 2 minutes.

3

Enroll via SMS Banking

online

Some banks (like SBI) allow PMSBY enrollment via SMS. Send "PMSBY <Account Number>" to your bank's SMS banking number. Check your bank's website for the specific SMS format. ₹20 auto-deducted from your account on activation.

4

Keep Account Balance Sufficient

online / offline

Every year on 1 June (or next business day), ₹20 is auto-deducted. If balance is insufficient, coverage lapses. No notifications are sent in most banks — ensure ₹20 is available in your account each June. Coverage is automatically renewed each year as long as the debit succeeds.

5

File Accident Claim

offline

In case of accident: the insured person (for disability) or nominee (for death) contacts the bank → submits claim form, FIR/MLC, doctor certificate, discharge summary (for disability), death certificate (for death claim), and bank details of claimant → bank forwards to insurer (New India Assurance / partner) → claim settled within 30 days.
